To me this challenge screams out conformity. Things you ought to watch to be considered a "real" lolita. I don't know. I honestly did struggle to come up with five suggestions. But I have drawn attention to movies I think are worthwhile for viewing.
Here are my recommendations~
Kamikaze Girls || For obvious reasons this is number one. A movie based in Japan which focuses on the life of Momoko. She wears lolita fashion daily and struggles with the opinions of others in her quiet little village. She makes friends with a girl from a biker gang and they combine their experiences from two completely different worlds. If you're a lolita and haven't seen this, I would be truly surprised! It gets recommended by essentially everyone and anyone.
Mister Rococo || It's a very short production, just under 15 minutes in total, and can be watched on YouTube. It's ultimately a comedy about the romantic lose of the main character and what she's willing to do to get the love of her life back. So much crazy but what else do you expect from Japan? They produce some absolutely ridiculous game shows etc. so this is by no means a surprise.
Both of the above productions have been endorsed by Baby the Stars Shine Bright, a well known lolita brand. You can see various prints featured in both, in addition to the interior of their store.
When it comes to lolita fashion, there is this ideal of what it is to be a lolita. What is considered acceptable and appropriate in relation to attire and behaviour. I don't approve of conformity in the sense of being forced to do something. We are all individuals, with our own minds and way to do things. For me, every lolita chooses to do as they desire. Whether that's go by the lifestyle or wearing it occasionally. There is this image of what a lolita is and anything that doesn't fit the label, gets frowned upon by some. But this shouldn't be the case! At the end of the day, we are all individuals and ought to be able to do what we want. Therefore in relation to this challenge, whatever works for you can count.
I encourage individuality and people to think for themselves. It is nice to share ideas amongst others, but do not fall into the trap that you ought to act and/or dress in a certain way to fit in/be accepted by those around you.
